Importation of household goods
- Certificate of change of residence (from the French Consulate in the origin country) or letter from the employer stating that shipper has been living abroad for more than a year,
- detailed valued inventory in French (signed by shipper on each page),
- non-resale attestation form (given by our company),
- copy of passport and proof of residence in France (electricity/phone bill, lease, etc.).


Importation of a vehicle

For duty free:
- the owner must have lived abroad for more than one year,
- the vehicle is registered under the owner's name and owned for more than 6 months,
- the vehicle is for private use only (no commercial use).
Note: the vehicle must appear on the packing list with the effects (even if separate).
Documents required: original certificate of title, original registration card, certificate of change of residence (to be requested from the French Consulate in the country of origin), invoice.


Specific cases

Inheritance: declaration of a public notary (with a list of the belongings, date of death and degree of kinship) together with a residence permit. Importation within one year.
Student: certificate from the school/university. Shipment within 2 months.
Wedding gift: marriage certificate and resident permit. Shipment within a month.
Secondary residence: official authorization from the French Regional Customs Office.

Importation of household goods
Household goods are allowed into the United Kingdom free of Customs duty and VAT if they have been in the owner's use and possession for at least 6 months and providing they are for the owner's use in the UK. The owner must have taken up residence in the UK. The property must be imported within 12 months of the owner's transfer of residence. New items must be declared and are subject to Customs duty and VAT. (invoices must be provided).

Importation of a vehicle
Private vehicles can be imported free of duty if:
- the owner has lived for more than 12 months outside the E.C.,

- the vehicle has been owned for at least 6 months before it is shipped,
- the owner must keep the vehicle within 12 months of the importation.

Inherited goods
The necessary documents for clearance must be submitted to Customs well in advance of the arrival of the shipment and goods should not be dispatched to the United Kingdom until Customs and Excise have given permission for duty free entry.

Required documentation
The Customs form C3 must be completed by the owner and submitted together with a packing list in English. A separate customs form is required for a motor vehicle.
